SIERRA LEONE - POLICY, LAW AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK
THE CORE MINERAL
POLICY
The Core Mineral Policy (CMP) of the Government of Sierra Leone
has been designed to create an internationally competitive and
investor-friendly business environment in the mining sector. The
policy is expected to assist the mining industry in attracting
foreign and local private sector funds and to provide benefits
and protection for the people and the environment of Sierra
Leone. The policy will provide an enabling legal and fiscal
regime for all mining operations from large-scale mines such as
those of Sierra Rutile to the small artisanal gold and diamond
mines in the provinces. The policy is also intended to enable
the private sector to take the lead in exploration, mine
development, mineral beneficiation and marketing.
